Liam
What the actual fuck.
What the fuck!
I canât believe she wanted to go back to her house. After the week we had, she wanted to be alone. Iâm so fucking pissed.
I canât stand drama. Bullshit games that women play. I looked in the mirror and saw her expression as I hauled ass away from her house. What the fuck did she expect? Iâve had an incredibly shitty time, and she expects me to cater to her. No fucking way.
I start driving home, but I donât want to go there. Iâll just be more pissed. So I head to Peaks Bar, texting Owen and Nathan via Siri that Iâm going there if they want to meet up. I need a drink.
About ten minutes after I get to the bar, Owen shows up. Iâve already downed two fingers of whiskey. The familiar burn of the whiskey has loosened me up and dulled a little of the fire I felt in my gut only moments before.
âWhat crawled up your ass, man?â Owen drawls as he sits next to me at the bar, motioning to the bartender for a beer.
âLiv and some bullshit attitude she pulled on me today. This is why I donât do relationships,â I mutter. Owen doesnât say anything, and I turn toward him to find him studying me closely.
âIâm going to need more information,â he says. I sigh.
âI got a package last weekend. Turns out it was from my stepdad,â I explain, and Owenâs eyes widen. âHe delivered it directly to my house, and Liv answered the door. I was at work. Liv didnât know who he was.â
âWhat was in the package?â Owen asks.
âA fucking reminder of my past,â I state, malice evident in my voice. âHe sent me my favorite stuffed animal as a kid, one he took away from me as punishment and told me he burned.â
âWoah. Thatâs fucked up,â Owen murmurs.
âYeah. At the bottom of the package was a letter.â
âOh shit. What did it say?â he asks.
I shake my head, pulling the sealed bag out of my jeans pocket.
âI havenât opened it yet. I donât know if Iâm ready to open it.â
Owen sits silently next to me, mulling over what Iâve just told him.
âHow did Liv react to this?â
âAbout what?â
âThe letter,â he says, rolling his eyes at me.
âShe doesnât know about the letter. Only the stuffed animal,â I admit. Oh shit. She doesnât know about the letter. I didnât tell her.
âWhy didnât you tell her?â
âIâm not sure,â I admit.
âSo why are you pissed at her?â
Iâm suddenly acutely aware of how I treated her. âFuck,â I mutter under my breath. âI donât even know why Iâm mad at her.â
âSounds to me like youâre pissed at your situation, and you took it out on her for no fucking reason, man. Thatâs fucked up, Liam,â Owen states pointedly. I nod, chagrined. Heâs right. I fucked up. âWhat did you think sheâd say when you told her it was some kind of letter from your stepdad?â
âI donât know. Maybe sheâd want me to open it right then.
